Cần Thơ 2 khi hoàn thành sẽ đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc tăng cường kết nối vùng, giải tỏa áp lực cho cầu Cần Thơ hiện hữu, góp phần thúc đẩy phát triển kinh tế - xã hội cho khu vực Tây Nam Bộ.

Tại cuộc họp nghe báo cáo đầu kỳ nghiên cứu tiền khả thi Dự án đầu tư xây dựng cầu Cần Thơ 2 và đường dẫn hai đầu cầu, Thứ trưởng Bộ Xây dựng Phạm Minh Hà đã thống nhất phương án đầu tư công trình theo quy mô 6 làn xe, với vận tốc thiết kế đạt 100 km/h và bề rộng mỗi làn xe là 3,75 mét.
Phương án xây cầu Cần Thơ 2 nối TP Cần Thơ với Vĩnh Long
Cầu Cần Thơ 2 được nghiên cứu xây dựng với tổng chiều dài khoảng 17,2km, trong đó cầu chính là cầu dây văng quy mô 6 làn xe. Đây là công trình giao thông quan trọng nối đôi bờ sông Hậu, được kỳ vọng sẽ thay đổi diện mạo hạ tầng và tăng kết nối liên vùng cho Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long.
